I am new to the Harley motorcycle clan and many owners are sold on Amsoil motorcycle oils. I am not sure spending more for synthetics is worth the money. Can you give me some idea of why I should make the change to synthetic motorcycle oil?
Bob
Motorcycles are high performance machines and the engines are producing significant power for the cubic inches of dispalcement. Harley's are air cooled resulting in higher oil temperatures. When petroleum oils run at elevated temps they will thin out and more readily oxidize. When oil thins below rated viscosity it does not lubricate as designed causing increased wear. Oxidation results in sludge and varnish creating deposits in the engine. Synthetic oils like Amsoil resist oxidation at much higher temperatures than petroleum oils. Amsoil synthetic oil will hold rated viscosity at elavated temps providing excellent lubrication preventing wear.
Amsoil advanced synthetic motorcycle oil is designed to last for two times the normal drain interval for petroleum motorcycle oils. So depending on pricing of the petroleum oils, it may be less expensive to use the superior Amsoil.
Better protection even in extreme conditions for equal or less money seems like an easy decision.
